On 31 March 2026, Bratislava’s Otvorená kultúra – Veľká kultúrna mobilizácia #takuestenehrali turned Freedom Square into a loud, rhythmic show of solidarity from across Slovakia’s cultural sector. Thousands of artists, technicians, students, and supporters filled the space with drums, whistles, and handmade banners as they marched past the institutions at the center of recent tensions — from the Fond na podporu umenia (FPU) to the RTVS. The procession felt part protest, part performance: folk songs rising between speeches, dancers weaving through the crowd, and a sense of a community refusing to be sidelined. By the time the square filled again at dusk, the message was unmistakable — culture in Slovakia is wide awake, organised, and unwilling to play quietly.
